TITLE
A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA SEPTEMBER 15 - OCTOBER 15, 2024
BODY
WHEREAS, national Hispanic Heritage recognition started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15, acknowledging the significant impact Hispanic and Latine people have had on the cultural, economic, and social fabric of our nation; and
WHEREAS, diversity is one of Gahanna’s greatest strengths and Gahanna is proudly a community where all are welcome, included, and celebrated, and
WHEREAS, the contributions of Hispanic and Latine business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals extend beyond economic impact, enriching our community with diverse perspectives, cultures, and traditions that enhance our collective understanding and unity; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 theme for Hispanic Heritage Month, "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together," celebrates the contributions of Hispanic leaders in driving innovation and shaping a brighter future, which aligns with the spirit of Gahanna's 175th anniversary-a time to honor our past and embrace a future built on the strength of our diverse community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO, THAT:
Section 1. This City Council hereby recognizes September 15 - October 15, 2024 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Gahanna.
Section 2. This City Council supports efforts to ensure the fair and equal treatment of all people in Gahanna.
Section 3. This City Council celebrates the contributions of the Hispanic community and resolves its intention that all members of the Hispanic community can thrive in Gahanna.
Section 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
