HALE, JR., OF THE LAW FIRM SMITH AND HALE LLC FOR HIS ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR CITY, HIS LEADERSHIP OF ORGANIZATIONS BENEFITING CITIZENS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, AND HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE CITY OF GAHANNA AND THE CENTRAL OHIO REGION AND BEYOND.

WHEREAS, Ben W. Hale, Jr. has practiced real estate development law in Gahanna and Central Ohio for 45 years and has represented numerous clients before the Gahanna Planning Commission and Gahanna City Council; and

WHEREAS, Ben W. Hale, Jr. played an integral role in numerous high-quality developments throughout Gahanna; and

WHEREAS, Ben W. Hale, Jr. is the longest-serving member of the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities and chaired the Board for many years; and

WHEREAS, he received the 2004 Ray Ferguson Award from the Ohio Association of County Boards as the outstanding advocate for those with developmental disabilities in the State of Ohio; and

WHEREAS, he was also a founding member and first chairman of Creative Housing Inc., a non-profit corporation established to provide community housing alternatives for individuals with developmental disabilities, and whose Creative Housing model, which Ben helped create, is now being recreated around Ohio and other states; and

WHEREAS, a native of Huntington, West Virginia, Ben is a graduate of Marshall University and earned his J.D. with honors from The Ohio State University; and he and his wife of 46 years, Jan, have two daughters and three grandchildren and reside in New Albany, Ohio.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That Ben W. Hale, Jr. is hereby honored and commended for the great contribution he has made to the Gahanna community.
