REAFFIRMING AND SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ANNUAL STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY

WHEREAS, interested students should be and have been given the opportunity to participate in and view the functions of their local governmental unit to establish basic ideas in preparation for future voting; and
WHEREAS, the local municipal government unit is the basis for the democratic system and the students should have at least minimal concepts of its actions and how they personally are affected by its decisions; and
WHEREAS, students are directly influenced by their local municipal government and they should have some acquaintance with the said government; and
WHEREAS, on the 29th anniversary of the program, it is deemed appropriate to reaffirm the interest in continuing the program of STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY in the City of Gahanna:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Administration of the Gahanna-Jefferson Schools and the governmental body of the City of Gahanna be hereby requested and urged to establish one or more annual STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAYS.
Section 2. That in order to encourage participation in local government, student counterparts of each governmental official be elected or appointed to participate in City affairs on the said STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force immediately from and after its passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
