TITLE
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING WORLD WATER DAY MARCH 22, 2025 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, is a global initiative established by the United Nations to both highlight the importance of freshwater and to advocate for the sustainable management of water resources; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna is committed to protecting and enhancing the health of its local waterways, including the Big Walnut Creek, the Rocky Fork, and the Sycamore creeks, and all related tributaries, recognizing that clean water is essential for the well-being of residents, the sustainability of ecosystems, and the prosperity of our community; and
WHEREAS, effective stormwater management plays a critical role in protecting water quality by reducing flooding, preventing erosion, and filtering pollutants before they enter our creeks and streams; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna acknowledges the importance of investments in green infrastructure, public education, and responsible development practices to enhance stormwater resilience and to improve water quality; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna recognizes that access to clean and safe water is a fundamental human right and affirms its commitment to policies and programs that support water conservation, watershed protection, and environmental stewardship affecting water quality; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council hereby recognizes March 22, 2025, and every year thereafter, as World Water Day in the City of Gahanna and encourages residents, businesses, and community organizations to take part in activities that promote water conservation, pollution prevention, and protection of our local waterways.
