TO REESTABLISH SALARY FOR THE THE SHORT-TERM POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT; TO WAIVE SECOND READING; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, by passage of ORD-0243-2001 this Council extended the position of Director of Emergency Management created by ORD-0254-2000 for two years, with the mutual understanding that this position is a temporary position for a limited time frame; and
WHEREAS, the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position include an update of all our emergency planning; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that additional compensation is warranted for this position for the period extended; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide for this funding so it is in place on January 1, 2002, all for orderly planning of critical emergency management for the City and for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That compensation shall be provided in the 2002 appropriations at $36,400 per year with the understanding that the hours may vary on a weekly basis but are not to exceed 1040 hours per year, and with any changes in compensation to be approved by ordinance of Council.
Section 3. That for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
