TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH UNITED STEEL, PAPER & FORESTRY, RUBBER, MANUFACTURING, ENERGY, ALLIED INDUSTRIAL, AND SERVICE WORKERS INTERNATIONAL, LOCAL 9110; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, the City is currently in negotiations with the United Steel, Paper & Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial, and Service Workers International, Local 9110 (the Union) regarding the terms of a new contract as the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Union expired on December 31, 2013; and
WHEREAS, the Union has agreed to extend the current contract terms while the negotiations process continues; and
WHEREAS, the contract extension will continue the terms of the current contract through February 28, 2014 and then on a month by month basis until such time as a new contract is ratified; and
WHEREAS, it is critical for the orderly flow of business that this agreement be entered into as soon as possible, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a contract extension with United Steel, Paper & Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial, and Service Workers International, Local 9110.
Section 2. That this agreement shall expire at close of business on February 28, 2104 unless it is earlier extended by agreement of the parties in writing.
Section 3. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
