TITLE
A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE SEPTEMBER 28, 2025, AS NATIONAL GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, more than 35,000 residents call Gahanna home, living in a vibrant mosaic of neighborhoods and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, our neighborhoods represent the heartbeat of our community, safe spaces where children play in front yards, neighbors gather over cookouts, and gardens bloom in every season; and
WHEREAS, while many Gahanna residents share friendships with their neighbors, across the nation, many people remain strangers to those living just steps away, often sharing cul-de-sacs without ever knowing each other's names; and
WHEREAS, in some neighborhoods, the preference for keeping to oneself can unintentionally lead to greater isolation and loneliness; and
WHEREAS, loneliness was declared a public health crisis in 2023, the surgeon general recognizing its profound effects on physical and mental health, life expectancy, and overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, Building upon Supporting Gahanna Together Day and other beloved community events, Gahanna continually strives to be a leader in fostering connection, encouraging residents to welcome their neighbors, forming friendships, strengthening trust, improving quality of life, and building resilience across every corner of our city; and
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day was created in the early 1970s by Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana, and made an official U.S. holiday by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 to inspire understanding, respect, and friendship among neighbors; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna values strong neighborhoods and recognizes the power of kindness, connection, and shared community spirit to strengthen our city;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL AND PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
