TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY FOR LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the Central Ohio Healthcare Consortium began offering life insurance through Standard Life Insurance Company to participating entities this year; and
 
WHEREAS, the Director of Human Resources is recommending that we change our life insurance vendor from Life Insurance Company of North America, a division of Cigna Group Insurance to Standard Insurance Company; and
 
WHEREAS, this change is cost neutral to the City but will lock our current rate in for an additional year; and
 
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City to implement this change as quickly as possible to allow our employees the opportunity to enroll during this year's open enrollment, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
 
Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into Contract with STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY, 900 SW Fifth Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97204-1282 for life insurance benefits for City employees, said contract attached hereto as EXHIBIT A.
 
Section 2.  That sufficient funding will be set aside in the 2015 Appropriations to cover the herein costs.
 
Section 3.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this Ordinance shall be declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
