TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH OXBOW RIVER AND STREAM RESTORATION, INC., FOR EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION STUDIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE BIG WALNUT CREEK AS IT RELATES TO CREEKSIDE PARK.

WHEREAS,  the Big Walnut Creek has come over its banks and demonstrated the powerful effect of water on the natural and man made environment surrounding the Creekside Park; and

 

WHEREAS, this event in combination with the high water events that occur regularly on the Big Walnut Creek have had a significant impact on the park since its construction; and

 

WHEREAS, the City has budgeted for engineering to improve the banks of the mill race and to address the erosion of the Creekside Park banks; and

 

WHEREAS, the City has taken a comprehensive approach to the effects of erosion and sedimentation that are affecting the mill race and the banks of the island; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to study influences well upstream and downstream of the island and gather recommendations to mitigate them;

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That  the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into Contract with OXBOW RIVER AND STREAM RESTORATION, INC., 2905 Klondike Road, Delaware, Ohio, 43015, for erosion and sedimentation studies and recommendations on the Big Walnut Creek as it relates to Creekside Park.

 

Section 2. That funding in the amount of NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($9,000) was set aside in the 2006 appropriations in Account No. 101.431.5511, Parks, Capital Projects, to cover the herein costs.

 

Section 3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and 30 days after date of signature approval by the Mayor.
