TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH BUCKEYE POWER SALES FOR PURCHASE OF A TRANSFER SWITCH FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERATOR AND TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY POWER DURING INSTALLATION; TO SUPPLEMENTALLY APPROPRIATE $14,355; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, in the event of a power outage, City Hall, Oklahoma Avenue Operations Complex, the Fleet Maintenance Garage, and the Police Department are equipped with diesel fueled stationary generators; and
WHEREAS, during the most recent load test, the generator for the Police Department failed to automatically transfer from commercial power to generator power; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the transfer switch is malfunctioning and needs replaced; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Public Service is requesting that we move forward with the replacement; and
WHEREAS, due to the critical nature of this transfer switch is it imperative it be replaced as soon as possible, and all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into Agreement with BUCKEYE POWER SALES (BPS), 6850 Commerce Court Drive, Blacklick OH 43004-0265, for the purchase of an automatic transfer switch for the generator at the Police Department and for providing temporary power during installation.
Section 2. That funding in the amount of FOURTEEN THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS ($14,355) is hereby appropriated from the unencumbered, unappropriated balance of the General Fund to Account No. 101.141.5512, Lands and Buildings, Capital Equipment, to cover the herein costs.
Section 3. That ORD-0001-2012, passed January 2, 2012, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.
