A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING JANUARY 2025 AS "CERVICAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, Cervical cancer touches the lives of many families far and near, with nearly 500 women in Ohio diagnosed each year; and
WHEREAS, Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the primary cause of cervical cancer, but there is hope! Cervical cancer is preventable, with the safe and effective HPV vaccine able to prevent over 90% of related cases, offering a powerful tool to protect loved ones; and
WHEREAS, One of the factors with adequate evidence of a decreased risk of cervical cancer is sexual abstinence according to cancer.gov; and
WHEREAS, HPV that causes cervical cancer also increases the risk of other cancers in men and women; therefore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the HPV vaccine for routine vaccination of both boys and girls, safeguarding the health and future of our families; and
WHEREAS, Early detection through regular Pap and HPV screenings provides a lifeline, significantly improving outcomes for those diagnosed early; and
WHEREAS, Raising awareness and expanding access to vaccines and screenings are vital steps toward a future free from cervical cancer and HPV-related cancers, empowering individuals and their families to take charge of their health; and
WHEREAS, The Crawford Crew, a dedicated nonprofit founded in 2009 in Westerville, Ohio, has been a beacon of hope in the fight against cervical cancer, expanding its mission in 2019 to include the eradication of all HPV-related cancers; and
WHEREAS, With tireless dedication, the Crawford Crew has profoundly impacted communities by providing education, access to treatment, and unwavering support for patients battling HPV-related cancers. This volunteer-driven organization exemplifies the power of community, showcasing a shared commitment to improving lives and advancing health initiatives; and
