TITLE
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR MAKE GAHANNA YOURS FARMERS MARKET VOLUNTEERS
BODY
WHEREAS, farmers markets accounted for $1,700,000,000 in income for farmers of the United States in 2020 according to U.S. Senate Resolution 324 (July 2023), demonstrating the crucial role of farmers markets in local economies; and
WHEREAS, farmers markets serve as significant educational sites and as bridges between urban and rural communities, contributing to a better public understanding of farming and ranching; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of more sustainable farming practices is closely associated with farmer-to-consumer interactions facilitated by farmers markets; and
WHEREAS, farmers markets serve unique and indispensable roles in supporting food access, bolstering local economies, promoting healthy communities, and fostering sustainable farming; and
WHEREAS, Make Gahanna Yours was founded in 2016 to promote the quality of life in Gahanna, to beautify the community, and to create volunteer opportunities for community members of all ages and abilities; and
WHEREAS, through a dedicated group of volunteers, Make Gahanna Yours successfully implemented and facilitated farmers markets in Gahanna for five years, overcoming significant challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, this City Council wishes to acknowledge the immeasurable value of the volunteer service provided by the Make Gahanna Yours farmers market team to Gahanna and surrounding areas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. This City Council celebrates, supports, and expresses its gratitude to the volunteers of Make Gahanna Yours for implementing farmers markets for five years in Gahanna.
Section 2. This City Council recognizes and supports the value of farmers markets to the wellbeing of Gahanna residents and to our region as a whole.
