TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH THE CENTRAL OHIO REGIONAL INTEROPERABILITY COMMITTEE (CORIC) FOR RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH KEY RESPONSE AGENCIES IN THE EVENT OF A SIGNIFICANT SITUATION.

WHEREAS, the City's Emergency Management Director has recommended that the Mayor sign a Memorandum of Understanding with CORIC; and
WHEREAS, the City has received 14 radios to be able to communicate with key response agencies in the event of a significant situation; and
WHEREAS, the Memorandum simply states that the City will use the equipment in accordance with the policies and guidelines set up by CORIC; and
WHEREAS, CORIC will provide resources to build awareness regarding the efforts towards radio "interoperability" throughout Homeland Security Region Four so that those agencies and first responders are better prepared to interoperate in the event of acts of terrorism and major disasters; and
WHEREAS, there are emergency alert guidelines and procedures that we can follow for the use of the Multi-Agency Radio Communication System without the payment of license fees; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this ordinance due to Homeland Security issues, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with CENTRAL OHIO REGIONAL INTEROPERABILITY COMMITTEE and to sign the MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING for radio communications system to allow coordination and sharing of vital information, associated with Homeland Security; Agreement attached as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. That this ordinance will be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and 30 days after date of signature approval by the Mayor.
