TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS OF MID-ATLANTIC FOR CELLULAR PHONES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the current cellular phone contract expires on October 4, 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Operations has received quotes from two sources and is recommending that the City go with Nextel, due to price and capability of the phones; and

 

WHEREAS, the City is decreasing the number of cell phones that it will be purchasing from the current 59 phones to 53 phones; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation as soon as possible since our current contract will expire on October 4, 2003, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS OF MID-ATLANTIC, 1505 Farm Creek Drive, McLean, VA  22102 for cell phones, in accordance with City specifications.

 

Section 2.  That funding was set aside in the 2003 Appropriations in the following cell phone accounts; 101.121.5483, 101.130.5483, 101.141.5483, 101.145.5483, 101.181.5483, 101.215.5483, 101.343.5483, 101.431.5483, 101.432.5483, 101.512.5483, 101.211.5483, 101.348.5483, 220.330.5483, 651.350.5483 and 661.360.5483. 

 

Section 3.  That waiver of second reading has been requested.

 

Section 4.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
