TO HONOR COLUMBUS ACADEMY ON ITS 100TH BIRTHDAY

WHEREAS, Columbus Academy was founded to be a boy's college preparatory school, and opened its doors for the first time September 25, 1911 with three teachers and 18 students on Nelson Road; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Academy purchased over 200 acres of land at its current location at 4300 Cherry Bottom Road in 1964 and moved into its new campus in the fall of 1968; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Academy admitted African American males for the first time in the 1964-1965 school year and both graduated in 1968; and
WHEREAS, females were allowed to attend the Columbus Academy for the first time during the 1991-1992 school year, and 15 graduated in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Academy enriches its academic tradition of excellence by valuing a broad diversity of students, as it seeks to develop the complete person - mind, body and character; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Academy now consists of over a dozen buildings with plans to expand to a school with four divisions; and
WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 school year enrollment was 1,072 students and the 2011-2012 school year enrollment is 1,077 students; and
WHEREAS, many activities are planned for this Centennial Celebration culminating in a 100th birthday party on Friday, September 23, 2011;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council congratulates the Columbus Academy on its 100th birthday and wishes Columbus Academy many more years of excellence.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest date possible.
