TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY OF NORTH AMERICA, A DIVISION OF CIGNA INSURANCE COMPANY FOR LIFE INSURANCE/AD&D INSURANCE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the Director of Human Resources has been reviewing all insurance coverage for City employees; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Human Resources is recommending that we change our life insurance/AD&D vendor from Standard Insurance Company to Life Insurance Company of North America, a division of Cigna Group Insurance; and
WHEREAS, this change will save the City approximately $3,100 annually; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City to implement this change as quickly as possible to realize these savings, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into Contract with LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY OF NORTH AMERICA, A DIVISION OF CIGNA GROUP INSURANCE, P O Box 13701, Philadelphia, PA 19101-0110 for life insurance and AD&D insurance for City employees, said contract attached hereto as EXHIBIT A.
Section 2. That sufficient funding will be set aside in the 2013 Appropriations to cover the herein costs.
Section 3. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance shall be declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
