TO HONOR AND COMMEND GAHANNA POLICE OFFICER, DEAN BLAMER, AND POLICE SERGEANT, JEFF SPENCE, FOR EFFORTS ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY.

WHEREAS, Officer Blamer and Sgt. Spence reacted to the tragic murder of Deputy Chief Rinehart's sister by following up on the potential that there was a threat to the Deputy Chief both as a Gahanna resident and a police officer; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Spence immediately took action to contact the Alabama authorities to access the case and aid in the investigation; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama authorities immediately became dependent upon Sgt. Spence as the investigative coordinator in Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Officer Blamer and Sgt. Spence dedicated their weekend to the case, contacting Central Ohio friends and family of the suspected murderer; and
WHEREAS, Officer Blamer and Sgt. Spence established information that the murder suspect had crossed state lines and this motivated the FBI to become involved in the case; and
WHEREAS, the initiative and investigative abilities of Officer Blamer and Sgt. Spence facilitated the arrest of the suspect, who turned himself in to the Pickerington, Ohio Police Department on Thursday night; and
WHEREAS, the Gahanna Police Department, in general, pulled together and worked as a team and a family to execute the attainment of the goal that was foremost in everyone's mind - to catch the suspect who murdered a police officer's sister; and
WHEREAS, Officer Blamer and Sgt. Spence serve as exemplary examples of Gahanna's finest in working over and above the call of duty to help one of their own, and to keep the streets of Gahanna safe for our residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That on behalf of this Council and Administration Officer Dean Blamer and Sgt. Jeff Spence are hereby honored and commended for their work over and above the call of duty to help catch a murder suspect.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council.
