TO HONOR THE GAHANNA KIWANIS ON THEIR 40TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Gahanna was organized in 1960, and the charter was presented on October 4, 1960; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Party and meetings were held at Millers Village Restaurant, and Ed Miller and Howard Warwick were the two people most involved in obtaining the needed twenty five charter members of the club; and
WHEREAS, the first money making projects were the Christmas Paper Sale, and the Pancake Dinner at the high school; and
WHEREAS, the first service projects included American flags to new churches, and sponsoring both a Boy Scout Troop and a Little League baseball team; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis also sponsored a Key Club at the Gahanna Lincoln High School which provided opportunity for joint service projects with the Key Club students; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis established, as service projects, two scholarship funds for graduating seniors of Gahanna Lincoln High School, and now award three; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis established the K Foundation which has greatly enhanced their community service capability over the years, which enabled Kiwanis to fund the building of a playground on Hines Road, providing a motorized wheelchair for a Gahanna school-aged child, giving car seats to the Gahanna Police Department to use when motorists need them, CPR mannequins to the Fire Department, a bicycle for the Gahanna Police Bicycle Patrol, and many other projects of great benefit to the citizens of Gahanna; and
WHEREAS, in the nineties Kiwanis expanded outside our local community to worldwide in support of the Kiwanis International IDD Program, to help eradicate the worldwide problem of Iodine Deficiency Disorders; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Gahanna plays a vital part in the Gahanna community and has given generously to the people of Gahanna, and now, around the world, with the true spirit of the establishing fathers being continued now for 40 years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Kiwanis Club of Gahanna, on their 40th Anniversary, is given the heartfelt wishes of City Council and the Administration for a job well done and the hope that there will be at least 40 more years of the fine representation of the City through the Kiwanis Club of Gahanna.
Section. That this resolution will be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council.
