TITLE
A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF GAHANNA’S COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION AND RECOGNIZING APRIL 22, 2023, AS EARTH DAY
BODY
WHEREAS, an overwhelming majority of scientists from around the world have declared climate change to be a critical issue faced by Earth’s family of nations; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna acknowledges the challenges that climate change poses; and
WHEREAS, the number one goal of the MORPC Regional Sustainability Agenda includes improving air quality and reducing climate change impacts to protect public health and the environment; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna is committed to policies and initiatives that support sustainability, including increasing alternative fuel vehicles and infrastructure, encouraging development to include ways to mitigate storm water via green infrastructure and pervious pavements instead of traditional storm drains, increasing access to parks and regional trails, providing access to composting and encouraging local businesses to join our efforts; and
WHEREAS, policies such as these create connectivity between neighborhoods, increase the values of our homes, create a healthy local economy, and improve public health outcomes for all; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the work of Mark Tinus at Simple Times Mixers for his goal of zero waste; and
WHEREAS, as his business has grown, he has remained committed to this goal by providing reusable glassware and partnering with local distilleries to use the whole fruit; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day celebrates achievements in environmental protection of Earth’s natural resources each April 22nd; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna affirms its commitment to Invest In Our Planet, the 2023 Earth Day theme, and work with regional partners to build a prosperous and equitable future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1: That this Council does hereby reaffirm its commitment to climate action for the protection of Earth’s natural resources in the City of Gahanna.
Section 2: That this Council does hereby recognize April 22, 2023, as Earth Day in the City of Gahanna.
Section 3: That this Council encourages residents and businesses to invest in our planet by taking steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle, reducing pollution, and protecting our vital natural resources.
Section 4: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
