TITLE
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING JULY 2023 AS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, our parks and recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our community, ensuring the health of all citizens, and contributing to the City’s economic and environmental well-being; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation promote time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being, and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation encourage physical activities by providing space for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming pools and many other activities designed to promote active lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna appreciates and applauds the hard work and dedication of the Parks & Recreation Department in a successful return to in-person community events and programs including summer and winter break camps, holiday events, and other activities that serve to fill the critical need for child enrichment, youth programming, senior activities, and recreation for all walks of life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council hereby recognizes the importance of parks and recreation to the vitality and connectivity of the community and designates July 2023 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Gahanna.
Section 2. That this Council applauds the Parks & Recreation Department for its steadfast stewardship of the City’s parks and recreation and for its creativity in fulfilling an important societal need of bringing people together.
Section 3. That this Council encourages all citizens to take part in the enjoyment of the City’s beautiful parks and fun recreational opportunities - from the Creekside arboretum to the golf course, active senior programming, aquatics, trails and bikeways, pollinators, and gardens, the City of Gahanna has spaces for everyone to breathe, blossom, and grow together.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
