TITLE

A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING OCTOBER 28, 2024, AS “HONORING FIRST RESPONDERS DAY” IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA

BODY

 

WHEREAS, first responders include millions of dedicated career and volunteer professionals across disciplines such as Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management, and Public Works, who ensure community safety; and

 

WHEREAS, Gahanna’s first responders are always prepared to protect and serve the community, offering life-saving services 24/7, throughout the year, with a commitment that transcends personal sacrifice; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of Ohio Department of Public Safety established the Office of First Responder Wellness, acknowledging the physical, mental, and emotional risks first responders face in their essential work; and

 

WHEREAS, first responders and their families make daily sacrifices, placing service above self, in facing the dangers and uncertainties of their profession; and

 

WHEREAS, supporting first responders requires ongoing funding for wellness programs, recruitment, retention, onboarding, and training to meet the unique demands of their roles; and

 

WHEREAS, first responders, regardless of their role, deserve to be recognized, supported, and valued for their unwavering dedication to the safety, health, and integrity of our community, ensuring that every individual, irrespective of background or circumstance, can rely on their protection and care; and  

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL AND PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. Designate October 28, 2024, as “Honoring First Responders Day” in recognition of the vital contributions of first responders;

 

Section 2. Encourage continued State funding for wellness programs and efforts to recruit, retain, and train emergency medical, fire, police, and public safety workers;

 

Section 3. Commit to supporting Gahanna’s first responders, ensuring their well-being and acknowledging their critical role in keeping the city safe; and

 

Section 4. Encourage the people of Gahanna to observe “Honoring First Responders Day” by showing gratitude, learning about their contributions, and supporting the needs of emergency responders.
