TITLE

A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION HONORING THE VIETNAM TRAVELING MEMORIAL WALL IN GAHANNA, OHIO

BODY

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna proudly honors the brave men and women who answered our nation’s call to service, extending respect and gratitude to all patriots, humbly acknowledging the truth that in their service “All Gave Some - Some Gave All,” and joining our neighbors in the enduring promise “We Remember;” and

 

WHEREAS, we remember that while the Vietnam War concluded fifty years ago, it continues to hold lasting significance in our nation’s history today, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of countless service members, their families, friends and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, all veterans who served during the Vietnam War, including those who came home, those who were wounded, those who remain missing in action, and the more than 58,000 service members who gave their lives, are owed our lasting recognition, gratitude, and respect; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna honors our local heroes of American Legion Post 797 for bringing the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 3/5-scale replica of the Washington, D.C. national monument, to Veterans Memorial Park, from October 2 through October 6, 2025; and

 

WHEREAS, the traveling memorial, standing six feet tall and spanning nearly 300 feet, brought the names of the fallen closer to home, creating a space for remembrance, reflection, and healing, while also providing accessibility for those unable to travel to our nation’s capital; and

 

WHEREAS, American Legion Post 797 and its many volunteers exemplified servant leadership, sponsoring this effort, uniting the community in solemn tribute, and supporting Gahanna’s Vietnam veterans and their families with dignity and reverence; and

 

WHEREAS, this profound experience not only acknowledged sacrifices made decades ago, but also forged connections across generations, educating youth, supporting families, and offering solace; and

 

WHEREAS, the traveling memorial and its mobile education center brought the experience of the national monument to Gahanna as it has for communities across the United States.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL AND PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:  

 

Section 1. That the City of Gahanna extends its deepest gratitude to the Vietnam veterans, their families, and all service members who answered the call of duty during the Vietnam War.

 

Section 2. That the City commends American Legion Post 797, along with community volunteers and participants, for bringing the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall to Gahanna and creating a powerful opportunity for healing, honor, and remembrance.

 

Section 3. That the City recognizes the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall event, held October 2-6, 2025, at Veterans Memorial Park, as a solemn and historic moment in Gahanna’s history.

 

Section 4. That this Joint Resolution and Proclamation shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
