RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN "EAST SIDE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER"

WHEREAS, based on current economic forces, business models and improvements in technology affecting operations of safety services there are numerous benefits to combining resources; and
WHEREAS, through the use of in-car computers, cellular technologies and new communications methods it is more efficient to design and architect a dispatching system jointly participated in by multiple government entities; and
WHEREAS, based on current expenses involved with the providing dispatching services in the current highly technical environment it is desirable to combine labor, real estate space and resources for the purpose of reducing the overall expenditures incurred by the public and providing the highest level of customer service; and
WHEREAS, providing EMS and Fire Protection dispatching for the current supporting medical safety services is an opportunity and an obligation a dispatch center must embrace; and
WHEREAS, current joint operations have proven successful for the Gahanna School System, Jefferson Township, Mifflin Township and the City; and
WHEREAS, through joint operations, we have been able to provide better, more affordable services to our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Jefferson Township, Gahanna, Plain Township, New Albany, Truro Township, and Violet Township had joined together to conduct a study of a joing Emergency Dispatch Center; and
WHEREAS, the consultants, Elert & Associates, concluded their study on August 20, 1999 and recommended joint dispatching based upon its efficacy and professional advantage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the City of Gahanna commits itself, along with the City of Reynoldsburg and others to form an "East Side Emergency Communications Center" and look forward to enjoying the benefits of a technologically advanced dispatch center.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council.
