TITLE
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MAY 2025 AS “HONORING PUBLIC SERVICE MONTH” IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, public service is a noble calling that strengthens our nation, protects our communities, and enriches our daily lives; and
WHEREAS, the individuals who choose to serve with purpose, skill, and integrity deserve recognition for their commitment to the well-being of all people, ensuring that every resident, regardless of background or circumstance, is met with dignity, equity, and dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, public service is more than a job, it is a calling and more than just employment, but it reflects a deep-seated desire to serve the public and give back to the community; and
WHEREAS, from first responders to educators, engineers to public defenders, electricians to arborists, librarians to accountants, and camp counselors to lawmakers, every public servant who shares their knowledge and talents in service to the community often does so with fewer resources than in the private sector, yet with exceptional professionalism, compassion, and responsibility; and
WHEREAS, public servants and their families make daily sacrifices in support of the greater good, often in roles that are underappreciated, yet vital to the success and safety of our community; and
WHEREAS, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated nationally during the first week of May since 1985, the Gahanna City Council wishes to extend this honor throughout the month of May, to fully recognize and celebrate the lasting contributions of city staff and other public servants throughout the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. The Gahanna City Council hereby designates May 2025 as Honoring Public Service Month and encourages all residents, businesses, and community organizations to recognize the impact of public servants and consider how they, too, can contribute to the public good.
Section 2. The Gahanna City Council urges its residents to support local initiatives that promote community wellbeing, such as civic cleanups, neighborhood food drives, and volunteer service.
Section 3. The Gahanna City Council encourages residents to get to know their public servants and local representatives, to share their insights on community priorities, and to join in efforts that foster meaningful and positive change.
Section 4. This resolution shall be in effect from May 1 through May 31, 2025, in celebration of Honoring Public Service Month.
