TITLE
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING MARCH 2023 AS THEATRE IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH
BODY
WHEREAS, theatre education enriches the lives of students in our schools and allows them to learn a large range of skills and abilities in leadership, communication, and collaboration, and unlocks the unlimited potential of the student; and
WHEREAS, theatre is a critical component of the learning process and develops students’ creativity, self-discipline, problem solving, and critical thinking abilities; and
WHEREAS, research indicates that students with more theatre education have higher academic achievement across the curriculum; the importance of theatre education is recognized as being necessary for the full development of all students; and
WHEREAS, arts education increases students’ abilities to manage behavior, make decisions, self-reflect and critique, learn from mistakes, and cultivate a positive concept of the self; and
WHEREAS, arts integration leads to deeper learning, including making connections between new learning and previously learned concepts, stronger analytical skills, and enhanced ability to synthesize information into global conceptual thinking; and
WHEREAS, Theatre in Our Schools Month is a special opportunity for our community to engage in the ongoing process of theatre education and to bring a heightened awareness of the importance of arts in education; and
WHEREAS, the Gahanna Lincoln High School (GLHS) Theatre Program is essential to the arts and arts education in the City of Gahanna; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, the GLHS Theatre Program won fourteen Broadway World Regional Awards and was named Broadway World Regional Educational Theatre of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna supports the arts and arts education; and
WHEREAS, March is Theatre in Our Schools Month, and is commemorated by thousands of students and theatre educators by raising awareness of the importance of theatre education.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council does hereby recognize March 2023 as Theatre in Our Schools Month for the City of Gahanna.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
