TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING KAREN J. ANGELOU FOR HER 34 YEARS OF SERVICE AS A CITY COUNCILMEMBER FOR THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, Karen J. Angelou has served 12 terms of office as a City Councilmember, first winning office in 1981, representing Ward 2 for seven terms, and representing the City at large for five terms; and
WHEREAS, Karen J. Angelou’s record of 34 total years of service as an elected City Councilmember is exceptional not only for the City of Gahanna, but also for municipal officeholders across the nation; and
WHEREAS, during Karen J. Angelou’s service to the City, she proudly served as President of Council in 1984, 1987, 1993, 1998, and 2003; as Vice President of Council; as Chair of Council Committees; as Gahanna-Jefferson Schools liaison; as Trustee to the Gahanna Community Improvement Corporation; as a founding member and representative to the Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau; as a representative to the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and serving as its Chair from 2020-2021; and as a member of numerous task forces and community boards throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, Karen J. Angelou has been a champion for the City of Gahanna on both regional and state levels, has been honored with the William H. Anderson award from the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission for her leadership as an outstanding public service professional, and has received commendations from Mifflin Township, the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Senate, and the Lt. Governor’s office; and is the recipient of many awards and recognitions for her professional career as a music teacher for the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Karen J. Angelou has worked tirelessly during her terms of office to improve the safety, health, development, and prosperity of the City of Gahanna; to wit, support for major roadway improvements, strategic plans, sewer and water improvements, community policing, office and industrial planning, land acquisition for public parks and recreation, municipal building improvements, construction, and renovation, and prioritizing funding for safety and infrastructure services; and
WHEREAS, Karen J. Angelou has served the City of Gahanna with honor and is deserving of commendation for her commitment to Gahanna’s vision of being an innovative model community that values its rich heritage, pursues high standards, and ensuring that Gahanna is a city where citizens respect one another and abides by its mission to provide a city government that is responsive, accessible, and accountable to the City’s diverse and growing community of citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, AND PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR, OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the City of Gahanna does hereby honor and commend Karen J. Angelou for her contributions to the City of Gahanna as a City Councilmember.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
