TO HONOR AND COMMEND MEMBERS OF THE GAHANNA VETERANS' MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, George Kneeland approached City Council at the last Regular Meeting of Council in 1997 to request City support for a Veterans' Memorial Park to be located in Discovery Park; and
WHEREAS, the Kroger Company, through its then president Bruce Lucia, challenged the community to build the memorial by committing the first $1,000 towards creation of the memorial; and
WHEREAS, a committee of local volunteers was formed to create an engraved brick donation plan that would help fund the base structure of the memorial and a complete construction plan for the memorial; and
WHEREAS, this same committee designed the memorial and constructed the base structure for the bricks to be displayed; and
WHEREAS, the committee currently oversees a major portion of the maintenance of the park assuring its sustained beauty, appearance and state of repair; and
WHEREAS, in March of 2000 City Council passed an ordinance renaming Discovery Park as Veterans' Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, the following members have participated in varying roles over the life of the project coordinating bi-annual brick dedication ceremonies and other special events associated with the Gahanna Veteran's Memorial Park:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the late George Kneeland, Becky Kneeland, Dale Brown, Dottie Brown, Bob Fickel, Chuck Higgenbotham, Carl Lang, Ellen Murphy, Mike O'Brien, Chuck Ross, Bob Thurman, Lynn Thurman and Frank Treadway are hereby honored and commended for their continued unselfish dedication to making and keeping Veterans' Memorial Park a place where all veterans are honored.
Section 2. That the late George Kneeland, Becky Kneeland, Dale Brown, Dottie Brown, Bob Fickel, Chuck Higgenbotham, Carl Lang, Ellen Murphy, Mike O'Brien, Chuck Ross, Bob Thurman, Lynn Thurman, and Frank Treadway are given the heartfelt thanks of the entire community.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council.
