TO HONOR AND COMMEND MAYOR REBECCA W. STINCHCOMB FOR HER MANY YEARS OF CONTINUOUS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA.

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, a resident of Gahanna since 1986, was sworn in as Mayor of Gahanna on October 9, 2001, and was elected for the position in 2003, 2007, and 2011; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb is a native of Westlake, Ohio and she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Bowling Green State University; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, has served her community since 1986 when she began her career as the founder and first president of the Rathburn Woods Civic Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, was elected to serve on Gahanna City Council as a representative to Ward Three in 1991 where she ran unopposed for re-election for an unprecedented four additional terms; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, during her Council career, chaired every committee and was elected Vice President twice and also served as Council President; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, before serving as Mayor, began her career with the Ohio University on the University administrative staff as the first full-time Business Manager of the daily student newspaper, The Post; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb, continued her career over a period of twenty-five years in newspaper advertising serving in sales, marketing and management with Suburban News Publications, ThisWeek newspapers, The Columbus Dispatch, and Newspaper Network of Central Ohio Gannett; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb has completed numerous training sessions that relate to her volunteer positions; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb currently serves as the vice chair of the Executive Committee of the Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency. She is a proud charter member of the Gahanna/John E. Bickley YMCA and the Gahanna American Legion Post 797’s Auxiliary; and serves as an Associate Advisor to Gahanna Venture Crew 797, a co-ed high-adventure unit for youth of the Boy Scouts of America and is on the executive board of The Simon Kenton Council Boy Scouts of America; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb has been active and registered as a venturing, Scouting coed, young adult program leader since around 2003 where she served as an associate advisor, crew committee chairwoman and committee member. Rebecca W. Stinchcomb has also served in the role of Merit Badge counselor and in 2014 she joined the Executive Board of the Simon Kenton Council and still currently holds that position; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb is an active member of the Chief Logan Scout Reservation property committee which addresses camp improvement, maintenance and operational issues each year and has earned “Mountain Man” recognition; and

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca W. Stinchcomb is the daughter of a WWII and Korean War veteran and is proud to be the first woman ever to be elected Mayor of the City of Gahanna; and

 

WHEREAS, on behalf of the City Council of the City of Gahanna, we want to thank Mayor Stinchcomb for her many years of dedicated service to the community. We also want to thank her husband, Robert “Buck” Stinchcomb and her two children, Sara Hardin and Andy Miller for supporting her through her journey with the City.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That this Council hereby honors and commends Mayor Rebecca W. Stinchcomb for fourteen years of distinguished service as Mayor to the citizens of the community of the City of Gahanna.

 

Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately after passage by this Council.
