TO HONOR AND COMMEND PARTICIPANTS IN THE 2010 GAHANNA SUMMER LUNCH CLUB

WHEREAS, in 2008 members of the Bridge of Gahanna realized a great need in Gahanna during summer school break; and
WHEREAS, the Bridge of Gahanna decided to launch a program to serve lunch to children who received free and reduced lunches during the school year; and
WHEREAS, the program, with the support of local churches, businesses and restaurants, launched in the summer of 2008 with 1,400 meals being served out of one location; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 program ran from June 14th to August 20th at three different locations and served 4,500 meals to 585 people and was hosted by the Gahanna Jefferson School District; and
WHEREAS, special thanks goes to Smoothie King, Gahanna Pizza Plus and Bellacinos for donating food for all three sites on several occasions; and
WHEREAS, Steve Hielkema is Director of the Bridge of Gahanna and Karen Brantley served as manager of this program and deserve to be recognized; and
WHEREAS, special thanks and recognition go to Marie Miller and Ruth Simon of First Baptist Church for going way beyond this year; and
WHEREAS, Susan Ridgeway and Joe & Chandra Buck also deserve special recognition as they were willing to help anytime it was needed; and
WHEREAS, there are many other volunteers who deserve the thanks of the City for the time they have donated to this worthy effort and this Council salutes all efforts placed towards the success of this program; and
WHEREAS, the following churches participated: Faith Covenant, First Baptist, Good Samaritan, Life Vineyard Gahanna, Lighthouse Gahanna, Mifflin Presbyterian, New Life, Peace Lutheran, St. Matthew Catholic, Stoneybrook United Methodist and Walnut Creek Presbyterian; and
WHEREAS, Kroger, New Image Business Cards, Panda Express and Upscale Resale supported the program financially, along with Asphalt Services of Ohio, Columbus Evangel Temple, Gahanna Lanes, Mt. Carmel Health, Ohio Insurance Advisors, Winnscapes Nursery, Anderson Tax & Consul, Come-N-Play Day Care, Connie Conover, Fred & Marsha Black, Dr. Jodi Cooley, Electric Solutions, Inc., Giant Eagle, Express Fulfillment, Century Resources, Forrest Lions-By-Lions, Home Chipotle, Gahanna Grill, Cathy Mullin, Frisch's, Sanfillipo Produce, Donatos, Dairy Queen, Olive Garden and Rita's;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council hereby honors and commends all the participants in the Gahanna Summer Lunch Club sponsored by the Bridge of Gahanna for their great service to the children of our community and hope that this program will continue to grow in the future with even more involvement on the part of the Gahanna community.
Section 2. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
