TITLE

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MR. T’s PIZZA LEGACY ON GAHANNA’S FOOD ECONOMY

BODY

 

WHEREAS, Pizza is one of America’s comfort foods, and pizza shops may become community hubs, fostering a sense of local identity and community; and

 

WHEREAS, Gahanna has consistently celebrated and supported its small businesses and the entrepreneurs who drive them; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. T’s Pizza was originally the creation of Tom Snyder near Gahanna at Agler and Stelzer Rd in the 1970s; and

 

WHEREAS, both Jeffrey Armstrong and his father, Jim Armstrong, worked in the kitchen and delivered Mr. T’s Pizza pies and other menu items to Gahanna area and Mifflin Township residents; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Armstrong, at his son’s multiple requests and urging, bought Mr. T’s Pizza in 1981; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim and Jeffrey Armstrong expanded Mr. T’s Pizza by opening another store at Parksville Street and Rt 161 around 1987, yet both locations were closed around 2002; and

 

WHEREAS, Jeffrey Armstrong and family re-opened Mr. T’s Pizza on October 21, 2018, once again, bringing families and residents together from both Gahanna and Mifflin Township; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. T’s Pizza fostered a vibrant food economy with its dedication to quality, service, and community engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. T’s Pizza was a strong community partner, advocating and supporting local school fundraisers and charitable initiatives, such as toys for under privileged children in Gahanna and Mifflin Township; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. T’s Pizza will be greatly missed among the social fabric of our small city, and we all look forward to the day when Mr. T’s Pizza re-opens its doors and add once again to our vibrant food economy; and

 

WHEREAS, Council expresses its gratitude to the Armstrong family for their years of hard work and wishes them well in their future ventures.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That this Council does hereby recognize February 5, 2024, as Mr. T’s Pizza Day for the City of Gahanna.

 

Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
