TITLE
A RESOLUTION HONORING SGT. JUSTIN SHEASBY, SGT. KYLE PARRISH, AND OFFICER KAYLEA PERTZ OF THE GAHANNA DIVISION OF POLICE FOR THEIR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE AND VALOR IN SAFEGUARDING LIVES
BODY
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Gahanna Division of Police is to serve and protect our diverse community by building partnerships in order to provide professional law enforcement services that safeguard the lives, rights, and property of all; and
WHEREAS, on November 14, 2023, Sgt. Justin Sheasby, Sgt. Kyle Parrish, and Officer Kaylea Pertz, of Gahanna’s Division of Police, were travelling eastbound on Interstate 70 to attend a training in Zanesville, whereupon they encountered a chain reaction crash involving five vehicles, including a westbound charter bus carrying high school students from Tuscarawas Valley High School; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Sheasby, Sgt. Parrish, and Officer Pertz, having arrived within moments of the crash, ran towards the scene to assist students and staff and rendered aid to those who had been injured; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Police has awarded Sgt. Sheasby, Sgt. Parrish, and Officer Pertz the distinguished Medal of Honor for their conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at risk of life and beyond the call of duty for their response on November 14, 2023;
WHEREAS, these officers, in fulfilling the mission of the Division of Police and in executing the highest act of service one can give to another, risking their own lives in the safeguarding of lives of others, are deserving of high honor and robust support from the City of Gahanna for their heroic actions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council hereby honors Gahanna Division of Police Sgt. Justin Sheasby, Sgt. Kyle Parrish, and Officer Kaylea Pertz for their extraordinary service and valor in the line of duty.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
