TITLE

A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING TROOP 7456 AS THE FIRST GIRLS TROOP OF BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA (BSA) IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA

BODY

WHEREAS, Troop 7456 was founded in 2019 by a determined group of 6th-grade girls, paving the way for young women in Gahanna to fully participate in the time-honored tradition of Scouting, fostering leadership, resilience, and outdoor skills; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, Troop 7456 has achieved remarkable milestones, including earning three Eagle Scout ranks-the first-ever by girls in Gahanna-demonstrating the highest level of achievement in Scouting and setting an inspiring precedent for future generations; and

WHEREAS, these young women have camped regularly, participated in impactful community service projects, and explored new horizons through merit badges, high adventure camps, and travel across numerous states, embodying the spirit of perseverance and adventure; and

WHEREAS, the year 2025 marks a historic moment as Boy Scouts of America officially transitions to Scouting America, reinforcing a commitment to inclusivity and growth, a vision that Troop 7456 has championed since its inception; and

WHEREAS, unlike long-established boys' troops-such as Gahanna’s Troop 98, founded in 1943-Troop 7456 is forging its own legacy, overcoming challenges of being a young troop without decades of alumni support, proving that determination and community backing can build a strong foundation for success; and

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and achievements of Troop 7456 and recognizes that their perseverance and leadership reflect the values of the community, setting a powerful example for young women and future scouts; and

WHEREAS, by honoring Troop 7456, the City of Gahanna reaffirms its commitment to supporting youth leadership, adventure, and personal growth, ensuring that all scouts-regardless of gender-have the opportunity to thrive and contribute to their community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL AND PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That the Council and Mayor hereby recognize Troop 7456 as the First Girls Troop of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in the City of Gahanna, celebrating their achievements and the opportunities they have created for future generations of young women.

Section 2. That the City of Gahanna encourages community partnerships, mentorship, and support for Troop 7456, ensuring these scouts have access to the resources and opportunities necessary to continue their leadership journey.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
