A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JUNE 2022 AS LGBTQ PRIDE MONTH IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA

WHEREAS, Gahanna is a city where people treat each other with respect and where the rights, freedoms, and equality of all persons are supported; and

WHEREAS, on June 21, 2021, the City Council passed a Resolution Commemorating LGBTQ Pride Month, an historic milestone that reaffirmed the City’s Vision & Mission that included promoting respect among its citizens and being responsive, accessible, and accountable to its diverse and growing community of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual, and Queer (“LGBTQ”) Pride Month is celebrated annually in the month of June to honor the movement and activism spurred by the 1969 Stonewall demonstrations in New York City; and

WHEREAS, those identifying as LGBTQ in the City of Gahanna have made, and continue to make, vital contributions to the City and to the world in every aspect, including the fields of education, law, health, business, science, arts, fashion, music, film, literature, sports, government, technology, and civil rights; and

WHEREAS,
this City Council desires to celebrate the month of June 2022 by once again uplifting LGBTQ voices and recognizing members of the LGBTQ community as being valued and belonging in Gahanna’s vibrant tapestry of diverse citizenry.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1.
That this Council hereby recognizes June 2022 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the City of Gahanna.

Section 2. That this Council supports efforts to ensure the equal treatment of all people in Gahanna regardless of orientation or identity.

Section 3. That this Council expresses its hope that all in the community can live, work, and be who they are without secrecy or fear.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect on the day of its final passage and adoption.
