A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MAY AS ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA

WHEREAS, the month of May is recognized nationally as a time to learn about the heritage of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), celebrate the contributions of AAPIs, and understand the marginalization of AAPIs that has occurred throughout generations; and

 

WHEREAS, AAPIs are one of the fastest growing groups in the Central Ohio region, with over 53,000, or nearly 15% of Ohio’s total AAPI population, residing in Columbus suburbs; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna endeavors to strengthen the bonds of belonging among all people so that all are seen, heard, welcomed, and valued in our community, including AAPIs; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna’s success as a city includes vital contributions made every day by AAPIs in the areas of government, business, medicine, arts and sciences, education, military, and non-profits; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna is proud to celebrate and recognize the cultural diversity woven into the fabric of our community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Gahanna City Council hereby recognizes May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

 

Section 2. That this Council encourages all residents to join in remembering the history of AAPIs, honoring the sacrifices and contributions made by AAPIs to the success and vitality of our City and nation, and commit to strengthening the bonds of belonging for all that live and work in the City of Gahanna.

 

Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
